I have so many things I could blog about from this summer that I have been putting it off because it is overwhelming. To sum it all up, this was probably the most fun, busy, and fastest moving summer I can remember. It was great and I miss it SO much.
Here is just a small sample of some of the things we did:
We went here quite a lot. It was so hot almost everyday so it was great to get out and play in the water. All the kids(and adults), including the babies, loved it. Kate is a total water baby. She loves ANY water she can find.
Not only were we lucky enough to make it down to Lake Powell twice-once with each family-but we also got to go out on the lake in Utah quite a few times. We had a few boat trouble experiences, but they actually turned out to be funny stories and it gave us time to just sit and talk on the lake :).
We went hiking 3 different times. We went to Lake Mary with Randy's Parents and to Secret Lake and up Battle Creek with my family. My parents got a Kelty Kids carrier backpack, which was so nice to take on the hikes, and much to my surprise, Kate loved being in it! She was totally happy looking around and waving to everyone we passed.
I gained a new love for trail running this summer. My dad, being the crazy runner man he is, challenged me past what I thought I could do every time we went and it was awesome! I was able to go once with just my dad, once with both my parents, and once with my dad and sister. I also accomplished running my farthest distance ever and on really tough trails none the less (8 miles).
My mom and I went running together at least a couple times a week. We definitely had a couple days that we were basically dragging each other out the door but that's the beauty of a running partner! Oh those Utah hills. I was pretty good at them by the end of the summer but boy are they hard!
Kate's (early) 1st Birthday Party:
We wanted to be able to celebrate Kate's birthday while we were still with our families, so we celebrated a few weeks early. We got adorable 1st birthday pictures taken (that will be a new post) and then we had a party for her at my parents house. We had the party in their backyard and it was a perfect summer night. I did a "pink party" so all the decorations were pink and Kate wore a pink puffy dress. Basically my dream dress as a young girl haha. We ate some food then had a smash cupcake for Kate and cupcakes for us for dessert. And then we had an impromptu cupcake war with my sisters and I. It was fun and we got it all on video haha!
Oh these cousins. I think this was one of the hardest things to leave behind when we had to come back to NY. They love each other SO much. The boys adore these babies! The 3 girls are so cute and Kate and Kamryn are both able to crawl right now and were hilarious together. They followed each other everywhere in their little "baby train", stealing each others toys, squealing SO loud when they would see each other, and talking to each other in their baby language. They also both loved to maul little Parker every time she got laid down haha :). Taking Kate away from her cousins sort of breaks my heart.
I know this doesn't even begin to skim the surface of all the fun we had this summer. It was so great to be with our families and do so much all together. We are grateful for each one of them and we will hold all the memories we made the last 2 months in our hearts and minds forever!
